Longmont itself was founded in 1871 as the Chicago-Colorado Colony, but the Sunset neighborhood's own houses date mostly from 1910 to 1970, Craftsman bungalows and stone-accented cottages on lots up to a quarter acre. Sunset Golf Course, the city's municipal course, borders the area along with the Sunset municipal pool and its waterslides. Price Park sits at Sunset Street and Longs Peak Avenue, and Roosevelt Park's ice rink and summer concerts are within walking distance. Despite the neighborhood's name, St. Vrain Valley zones these blocks to Westview Middle School rather than Sunset Middle. Main Street and Ken Pratt Blvd are both about five minutes away by car.
