Denver Metro Communities Ranked by Walk Score

By Jessica Car · Updated July 2026

Walk Score grades a community 0–100 on how many daily errands can be done on foot, groceries, dining, schools, parks, transit. The Denver metro is overwhelmingly car-dependent (Walk Scores in the 20–40 range city-wide), but a handful of communities and neighborhoods break out of that average.

The list is led by Central Denver's urban neighborhoods (LoDo, Cherry Creek, RiNo, the Highlands), with a long tail of Front Range suburbs scoring in the 40s and 50s, "car-dependent" by the official metric but with walkable pockets near old town cores and light rail stations. Old Town Lafayette, downtown Castle Rock, Olde Town Arvada, downtown Edgewater, and downtown Longmont all anchor walkable micro-areas inside otherwise drivable suburbs.

Walk Score doesn't measure terrain or weather. Boulder-area scores can mislead. They're a daily-errands-walkable summer city and a winter ice city, depending on the month. Use Walk Score as a tier indicator, then check the community's parks, dining, and grocery sections for the on-the-ground reality.
