Broomfield Heights is where the city began. The Turnpike Land Co. broke ground in 1955 on a master-planned tract north of 120th Avenue between Main Street and US-287, and Broomfield incorporated in 1961 with 6,000 residents. The stock is largely brick ranch and mid-century plans of about 1,000 to 2,000 square feet on lots up to a quarter acre, with original hardwood floors and natural fireplaces still common and no HOA. Emerald Park and Midway Park sit inside the original filings, and Bay Aquatic Park is about half a mile east on Spader Way. Emerald Elementary, Broomfield Heights Middle, and Broomfield High all stand within the neighborhood or on its edge.
