Oberon takes its name from the Town of Oberon that once centered here and from Oberon Lake, dug in 1887 by the Oberon Land and Water Company and still fed from Clear Creek through the Farmers Highline Canal. The housing along Oberon Road and W 64th Avenue went up between 1970 and 1995 as a mix rather than a single tract: condominium buildings priced from the $260Ks, townhome rows in the mid-$300Ks, and single-family homes on lots of a tenth to a quarter acre that reach $650K, all under a mature tree canopy. The anchor green space is Majestic View Park at 7030 Garrison Street, 75 acres of wetland and prairie with a nature center that opened in June 2002, close to 2 miles of paved and gravel trails, and a mulch path out to the Oberon Lake overlook. Wadsworth Boulevard is about 5 minutes east and I-70 about 10 minutes south.
