Sheely Addition

Sheely Addition began as 40 acres of the Birky farm that Arthur Sheely bought in 1951 and sold two years later to developers Ben Olds and Bert Redd, who laid out curving streets without curbs or sidewalks south of the CSU campus off West Prospect Road. Its core, the 1600 and 1700 blocks of Sheely Drive, holds 11 mid-century Modern houses of 2,000 to 3,000 square feet with floor-to-ceiling glass and wood and stone finishes, designated a Fort Collins landmark district in 2000 when the oldest dated to 1953, while the surrounding blocks filled in through 1968 with ranch and Colonial Revival homes on 0.15 to 0.30 acre lots. The Gardens on Spring Creek at 2145 Centre Avenue and the Spring Creek Trail are about half a mile southeast. Centre Avenue and Shields Street bound the neighborhood, Prospect Road leads to campus in minutes, and the MAX line on Mason Street runs about half a mile east.
