Rooney Valley is a mapped locality at the far western edge of Lakewood, set between Green Mountain and the hogback. Houses here date from 2000 to 2014, largely custom and semi-custom Spanish Revival and new-traditional plans with three to seven bedrooms on lots running about a sixth to half an acre. The 3.8 mile Rooney Valley Trail climbs from William F. Hayden Park, whose main trailhead is at 1000 S. Rooney Road, and Jefferson County Open Space keeps Matthews/Winters Park and the Dinosaur Ridge Visitor Center within about two miles west. Red Rocks Park is roughly two miles out. W Alameda Pkwy and Rooney Rd meet C-470 and I-70 within ten minutes.
