Belmar opened in 2004 on the cleared Villa Italia mall site, a 22 block grid of condos and townhomes stacked above and beside more than 80 shops and restaurants. Belmar Park holds the south edge with 132 acres of grassland, nearly two miles of paved trail, and a fishing lake, while the Lakewood Cultural Center and the Belmar Library stand inside the district on South Allison Parkway.
