Houses here date from 1898 to about 1960 and stand beside the Colorado Chautauqua, whose 98 cottages went up between 1899 and 1954, with 80 finished before 1915. The 40 acre grounds were listed on the National Register on March 21, 1978 and named a National Historic Landmark on February 10, 2006, and the 1898 Auditorium still carries a summer concert season. The Chautauqua Trailhead at 900 Baseline Road holds 48 parking spaces and reaches the Royal Arch, Bluebell Mesa, and Flatiron trails, part of more than 40 miles of open space paths reachable on foot. Baseline Road runs east to Broadway in about five minutes.
