Highland Park East is the pocket south of 6th Avenue between Havana Street and Peoria Street, reaching down to about 1st Avenue. The Highland Park and Park East filings were platted from 1957 to 1959, so the stock is late-1950s brick ranches and split-levels on the Aurora grid with townhomes along the arterials, and the 1910 William Smith House on Oswego Court, an Aurora landmark since 1985, predates the subdivision. The High Line Canal Trail passes through the neighborhood on its way to Del Mar Park at the 6th and Peoria corner, and Expo Park is a mile south. Havana Street's retail is a two-minute drive, I-225 is about five minutes east, and downtown Denver is under ten miles west.
